Yesterday Toshiba launched its range of Gigashot HD camcorders in the Middle East as part of their global drive to become the number two player in the global HD camcorder market by 2009.
The cameras range in price from AED 2,999 for the Gigashot K40H, to AED 5,399 for the A100F, which at 78.1mm x 135.4mm x 79mm and 495 grams is one of the smallest and lightest camcorders currently available capable of recording at 1080i.
The cameras use inbuilt hard disks with capacities of up to 100GB to record their footage, potentially allowing for around 12 hours of video. Connectivity options include a USB mini jack and SD card slot, as well as HDMI, component and standard A/V ports.
Santosh Varghese, regional general manager for Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division, commented that “With the Gigashot series, we are confident of a strong start to 2008.”
