Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) has denied reports that plans to build two new passenger terminals have been shelved.

A BAC spokesman said none of the plans had been changed or cancelled, after a media report said the project had been cancelled.

“Plans for the expansion of the airport have not been changed, nor have any parts of the plans cancelled,” said a spokesman in comments published by state news agency BNA.

“We will be making an announcement on our plans in due course.”

BNA said a report in MEED earlier this week said Bahrain International Airport was not going ahead with the new terminals but would upgrade the existing terminal instead.

BAC chief executive Gordon Dewar had earlier told the Gulf Daily News that Bahrain airport was in a positive situation despite the impact of the global slowdown.

He told the paper the BIA was in a position for further growth this year and even expected to be profitable.
