Emirates flight to Maldives makes emergency landing in Mumbai

Flight EK 652 landed safely at Mumbai after smoke detected on board

An Emirates flight from Dubai to the Maldives was forced to diverted to Mumbai after it developed a technical fault.

The flight EK 652, with 309 people on board, declared an emergency after smoke was observed on board, according to reports in Indian media.

“The ATC (air traffic control) declared full emergency at the MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Limited) at 1359 hrs after a Boeing 777 flight of Emirates (EK 652) from Dubai to Male had to make an emergency landing following detection of smoke in the aircraft,” a Mumbai airport official told local media.

The flight landed safely at Mumbai and all passengers safely disembarked according to an Emirates spokesperson.

“Emirates can confirm that on 26 July 2016, flight EK652 from Dubai to Male was diverted to Mumbai due to a technical fault. The aircraft landed and passengers safely disembarked. Emirates apologises for the inconvenience. The well-being and safety
of our crew and passengers is of paramount importance,” the spokesperson said.
