Gault&Millau UAE revealed its first ever Champagne Index on Monday. The list covers 52 of the country’s finest restaurants that have all received toque-rating in the inaugural Gault&Millau UAE 2022 guide.
The index will be the first time that a country’s champagne scene has been examined by Gault&Millau. Using data compiled over a two-week period between September 29 and October 13, 2022, Gault&Millau has compared the price of every bottle on each of the 42 lists.
This examination of the data has led to some surprising results, with the price for the same bottle of champagne varying wildly depending on the establishment in question.
In one example, a bottle of champagne costing AED665 in DIFC was found to cost AED4,100 in Dubai Festival City – a more than 600 percent price difference.
In publishing the list, Gault&Millau is offering diners the ability to scroll through available producers to compare like-for-like prices and make restaurant reservation decisions based on access to transparent and valuable information in regards to cost of food and beverages.
Gault&Millau, in France has helped diners for over 50 years to make dining decisions based on easily accessible information about food, service, wine and value for money. Six months after its launch in the UAE, it aims to do the same and bring clarity, competition and fairness to the country’s wine scene.
