Motorola has struck a deal with credit card company MasterCard to make m-commerce a global reality.
Both will commit personnel and resources to joint research experiments, focused on the design of future technologies that can manage electronic payments over mobile phones.
The development of next generation technologies will support the newly formed Global Mobile Commerce Interoperability Group (GMCIG). The two parties will also work together on Middle East marketing campaigns.
Intelligent Payment
The goal is to build upon current consumer abilities, such as looking up flight details on a WAP phone, and offer intelligent payment systems. This will allow consumers, for example, to book tickets over a WAP phone.
When asked about recent moves by industry giants to establish partnerships, Janiece Webb, senior vice president, Motorola’s Personal Networks Group, said, “collaboration is a critical step that will speed the delivery of e-commerce, ensuring the end experience is superb.”
