It’s the question most expats get asked so often. “Where are you from.”
“Dubai,” I always reply.
And yes, you can guess the rest.
“But I mean, really, where are you really from?”
The reason I always say Dubai is because I believe that is not just true for anyone who lives and works here – but for many expats, this is truly what we call home.
Dubai has long been known as a tourist hotspot and a luxurious destination for those seeking a second home or a vacation spot. However, in recent years, Dubai has emerged as a primary residence destination for many people, thanks to its rapidly growing economy, thriving real estate market, and high standard of living.
The economy has been on a steady upward trajectory for several years, driven by its strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as its favorable business environment, attractive tax laws, and extensive infrastructure. The city has attracted a large number of multinational companies, entrepreneurs, and investors, creating a diverse and dynamic business community.
We all chose to come here, to stay here.

Dubai’s booming real estate market
And those of us in the real estate business have absolutely no reason to leave! This economic growth has had a positive impact on the city’s real estate market, which has witnessed a surge in demand for residential properties, particularly from international buyers. According to recent reports, foreigners accounted for nearly 70 percent of all real estate transactions in Dubai in the first quarter of 2021, with Indians, Pakistanis, and Britons leading the pack.
Dubai’s maturation as a city has transformed it from a place where people came to work and visit to one where they want to live and put down roots. It’s now a global hub for business, leisure, and culture, and that diversity has given it the edge over other cities in the region when it comes to attracting people from all over the world.
One of the main reasons why Dubai is increasingly becoming a primary residence destination is its high standard of living. The city offers world-class amenities and services, including top-notch healthcare facilities, international schools, and a wide range of leisure and entertainment options. Additionally, Dubai’s safety and security record, excellent transportation network, and cosmopolitan culture make it an attractive destination for families and professionals alike.
Moreover, the emirate’s real estate market offers a wide range of options for buyers, from high-end luxury properties to affordable apartments and villas. The city’s developers have been quick to respond to the changing demand, with a number of new residential projects launched in recent years, catering to different budgets and lifestyles.
The quality of real estate in Dubai is on par with any major city around the world. The design, architecture, and amenities of Dubai’s developments are second to none, and this has contributed to its growing reputation as a primary residence destination. With properties ranging from luxurious penthouses to affordable family homes, Dubai offers a wide range of options for buyers, ensuring that there is something for everyone.
Including me…so the next time someone asks me where I am from, I will say it again – I am from Dubai. And that’s what we should all say.
