Women employed in UAE federal government departments will be entitled to three-months of paid maternity leave.
The move comes after President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued Federal Law 17 for the year 2016, amending some articles under Law 11 of 2008, regarding human resources of the federal government.
Article 53 of the amended law confirmed female employees of the federal government will be granted a three-month paid maternity leave.
They are also entitled to a two-hour break daily to breastfeed their babies for a period of four months from the date of delivery, Khaleej Times reported. Maternity leave, however, cannot be combined with leave without pay.
The decree takes effect four months after being published in the official gazette, the report said.
In a tweet, Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, president, Dubai Women Establishment, said: “Happy to announce the UAE’s 3 month maternity leave. I wish all working mothers prosperity and success in their careers and personal lives.”

In September 2016, government employees in Abu Dhabi will be entitled to three months of maternity leave.
