Union Coop customers must provide permit proof at entry amid Covid-19

Union Coop shared a notice with its customers

Customers who wish to shop for groceries at Union Coop in the UAE must provide proof of their Dubai Police-issued movement permit upon entry.

In a statement to shoppers late on Thursday, the hypermarket said: “In line with the national sterilization procedures, starting today: April 16th, you are requested to show “exit permit” in order to enter our branches. Your safety is our priority.”

However supermarket chain Spinneys said it does not require poof of permit upon entry.

Arabian Business has contacted other chains including Waitrose and Carrefour for a comment.

Union Coop’s announcement came shorty after Dubai revealed it is limiting the issuance of one time permits for residents. Those who wish to apply for the permit can do so once every three days to buy groceries.

It has also limited the permit for those who want to withdraw cash from an ATM to once every five days.

All permits are limited to the applicants’ area of residence.

Permits for medical visits can be obtained by applying under the medical emergency category.
