Golf course architect Robert Trent Jones II has been appointed designer for the 18-hole championship course at the US $2 billion (OMR770 million) Salam Yiti Resort in Oman.

Dubai Holding owned developer Sama Dubai is the client.

The golf course is expected to be completed by 2010.

International Golf and Leisure Services (IGLS), Dubai Golf's consultancy and management company will operate the golf course as well as the marina at Salam Yiti. Dubai Golf already manages and operates the Emirates Golf Club and the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.

"The architects have been engaged to work alongside our master planners to maximise the natural beauty of the topography," said Sama Dubai executive chairman Farhan Faraidooni.

"We are also delighted to inform you that we have made excellent progress on enabling works at the golf course."

Apart from a golf course, Salam Yiti will also include high-end residential homes.
