The youngest member of the UAE’s Olympic team lost his opening encounter in the judo competition in Beijing on Monday.
At just 18 years old, Emirati Saeed Rashid Alqubaisi is the UAE’s first judoka to qualify for the Olympics.
A professional since he was 11, Alqubaisi was competiting in the preliminary round of the 73kg Judo category for men.
Up against 26-year-old South African Marlon August, the UAE competitor failed to score a point and his rival won the contest in just under one-and-a-half minutes with an Ippon score.
