Five Emiratis were killed in a car accident in Abu Dhabi at the weekend, police have reported.

The victims died instantly when a Lexus car and Nissan four-wheeler collided head on at Al Razeen, near Al Raha beach in Abu Dhabi at 10am on Saturday morning.

One of the vehicles caught fire in the crash, which is one of the worst since four members of an Emirati family were killed in an accident in Umm Al Quwain last month, the Khaleej Times reported.

In this incident, four of the victims were members of the same family.

Police were called to the scene of the accident and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fatal crash.

Colonel Hamad Al Balushi, director of external roads at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the General Command of the Abu Dhabi Police, cited speeding and negligence and warned drivers to take extra care on the roads and not to exceed speed limits, the newspaper said.
