A new addition to the Power List is the renowned Lebanese presenter, Marcel Ghanem of the popular political television show, Kalam El Nass. Screened every Thursday on the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation, the show is credited with some of the best political and economic discussions.
Ghanem is a longstanding employee at the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation. He joined the station in the early 90s co-presenting Kalam Massoul, a political emission with May Chediac before moving to present the longstanding Kalam El Nass which has been airing ever since.
In 2006 Ghanem’s name appeared on a new “hit list” of prominent Lebanese figures alongside Ali Hamedeh, host of another political talk show, Al Istihqaq. As a result Ghanem’s show was broadcast from Paris for some time.
The television presenter is no stranger to controversy and has often offered a platform to vocal critics of his own government. Most recently he critisised Arab governments decision to adopt a satellite broadcasting charter in a bid to gag journalists’ criticism of their governments. “It’s an exercise in futility in this day and age of 21st century media and dissemination through the Internet,” he declared to a packed auditorium of American University of Beirut students.
