Symantec nabs number one spot

Symantec has jumped from fourth to first in the Gartner Dataquest security software rankings.

Symantec has jumped from fourth to first in the Gartner Dataquest security software rankings. With a 14.7% market share, the company grew 40% year-over-year from $345 million in 1999 to more than $480 million in 2000. According to the report, the key to Symantec’s elevation was its merger with Axent in December last year, although the ever increasing awareness of IS system security has also contributed to the markets growth en mass.”There is an expanding awareness of the importance of enterprise security in the corporate marketplace as well as a growing demand for trusted products and services that counter the blended threats of today and tomorrow,” says Kevin Isaac, regional director for Middle East & Africa at Symantec.
