Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, Department of Community Development, Abu Dhabi Sports Council and STEPPI launched a fitness challenge that aims to encourage the public to walk one billion steps, collectively, reported WAM.
The challenge will start on September 23 and run for six weeks until October 26, with the aim to bring together thousands of individuals across communities to achieve the target, the challenge is aimed at encouraging individuals to be more active.
One billion steps challenge seeks to attract the involvement of over 1,000 participants from across the world who will attend the 9th International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH) Congress, held in Abu Dhabi.
Those who wish to participate will have to download the STEPPI app to track their progress on a dedicated website, with a live step counter that will display the accumulated steps taken by all participants. The app will also have activity recommendations that encourages ways for individuals to achieve a higher step count.
Participants have a chance to enter a draw to win Etihad Airways tickets.

“As Abu Dhabi prepares to host the International Society for Physical Activity and Health Congress in October, this is an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to not only step up and get involved and take as many steps as possible through frequent exercise but also showcase to the world how active our communities are across the nation,” said Matar Al Nuaimi, Director General of ADPHC, as reported by WAM.
The International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH), is an international society for those interested in advancing the science and practice of physical activity and health.
