UAE Public Prosecutors are investigating a private sector CEO over a social media job advert for unskilled Emiratis.

Federal investigators saw the controversial advert offering jobs to unskilled Emiratis and are now looking in to the matter.

The advert contained “contentious content” say prosecutors and the Attorney General called for an immediate investigation.

UAE boss under investigation

The UAE Public Prosecution said on social media that the private sector boss is under investigation over possible breach of Emiratisation regulations and media content standards.

Earlier this week the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) warned private sector companies regarding Emiratisation targets.

MoHRE said that the targets are conditional to Emiratis in skilled jobs.

“The ministry is closely monitoring the Emiratisation-related procedures, which companies are following, as well as the types of jobs they are offering to UAE nationals.

“However, we stress that for companies to achieve their Emiratisation targets, it is necessary that they employ Emiratis in skilled jobs,” MoHRE said via Twitter.

In a statement on Instagram The UAE Public Prosecution said: “The ad content violated the provisions of Ministerial Resolution No. 279 of 2022 on Monitoring Mechanisms of Emiratisation Rates in the Private Sector.

“The Federal Prosecution for Countering Rumours and Cybercrimes has launched an immediate investigation into the incident and is interrogating the CEO of the business on the allegations made against him.”

The UAE Attorney General has called for the investigation be finished promptly and has urged private sector businesses to adhere to the controls and instructions outlined in Ministerial Resolution 279.

He called on firms to increase the number of Emiratis employed in the private sector in order to activate its s role as a key partner in developing the labour market and advancing the country’s economic development.

The UAE exercises regulations on social media to ensure the safety and privacy of users across the Emirates.

These national guidelines provide a framework for all individuals and media institutions continue using social media websites and mobile applications without harming other individuals or the country.

If found to be in violation of any of the laws, the individual could face a fine up to AED1 million, as well as imprisonment.
