Dubai targets 500,000 visitors as cruise tourism season starts

Dubai, the region’s cruise hub, rolls out welcome to the 2,000 passengers and crew on board of Mein Schiff, the first of 126 ship calls expected

Dubai is set to welcome over 500,000 cruise tourists during the 2021-2022 season which started this week with the arrival of TUI Cruise Line’s Mein Schiff 6 at Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal, Mina Rashid.

Dubai, the region’s cruise hub, rolled out a grand welcome to the 2,000 passengers and crew on board, the first of 126 ship calls expected.

Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed, chairman of Dubai Sports Council, said “Dubai’s effective management of the Covid-19 pandemic has enabled the emirate to restore normalcy in record time and accelerate the recovery of the tourism sector.”

With world class infrastructure, Dubai is able to handle some of the world’s biggest cruise ships, further bolstering the city’s position as a gateway for both regional and international cruise itineraries.

Dubai’s growing reputation for cruise tourism will be further boosted next month when MSC Cruises, in partnership with Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism), DP World and Emirates Airline, will hold the naming ceremony for MSC Virtuosa at Mina Rashid (Port Rashid).

The cruise season in neighbouring Abu Dhabi is also growning with leading cruise liner companies such as AIDA, Costa, MSC and Tui among more than 100 cruise ships scheduled to call at the cruise terminals in Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi and Sir Bani Yas Island this season.

The facilities are owned and operated by AD Ports Group, the region’s premier facilitator of maritime industry and trade.

After a challenging year, Abu Dhabi said its cruise industry is primed and ready to go with strict safety protocols to ensure that tourists are safe while enjoying their nautical adventures.
