Demolition contractors in Dubai could soon have to be certified to carry out work in an effort to improve safety, an official at Dubai Municipality said on Saturday.
Jalal Noori Khalil, a building contract engineer at the municipality, said there was growing concern about the equipment and techniques used by demolition contractors in the emirate, UAE daily The National reported.
Khalil said the municipality was looking at setting up a professionally-certified association of demolition contractors and had held talks with “some highly advanced firms” last month on demolition safety.
“We are studying their papers,” Khalil was quoted as saying. “They discussed… very updated ideas that I forwarded to the engineering supervision division.”
Further talks are expected to take place next month, Khalil said.
