Jotun launch superdurable paint

International paint supplier and producer Jotun say their new Superdurable exterior paint will last almost twice as long as conventional paint systems.

International paint supplier and producer Jotun say their new Superdurable exterior paint will last almost twice as long as conventional paint systems.

The Superdurable was launched at thes Big 5 and is the first of its kind in the Gulf market, according to Jotun regional brand manager Niru Naik.

Naik said the paint utilises the properties of both silicone and acrylic compounds which gives it extra protective properties.

“We call it a hybrid technology and it is the first of its kind that we know of,” Naik said.

“The main benefit is that it dramatically reduces your maintenance costs on the exterior, plus provides protection to the concrete and the building itself.

“This means protection not only against the weather but protection against humidity, moisture, carbon penetration, chloride and salts as all these act on the building structure and can cause damage.”

Conventional paints don’t provide this protection, he said. Some products will provide one or two of these elements, but this product is a combination of many protective elements.

Naik said acrylic paints are the best know binders for exterior protection because they are flexible binders, breathable and offer good adhesion.

He said the addition of silicone enhances these benefits and doubles the effectiveness of the coating in terms of protecting the building.

“This paint will have a lifetime of around 20 years on a building, while a regular paint would last around 10 to 12 years,” Naik said.

“With the high cost of maintenance and repainting of buildings these days, we think the product will be successful.

“The initial up-front cost will be more expensive because it is unique in terms of the technology, but the savings will come in the long term.”
