Abu Dhabi cracks down on illegal tobacco retailers

The campaign targeted nearly 40 grocery stores in the emirate

Abu Dhabi City Municipality has cracked down on grocery stories and commercial retailers in the Wathba area to verify tobacco products on sale comply with health and safety criteria.

The campaign targeted 37 grocery stores in Bani Yas East and West, Shamkha and Shawamkh that were selling illegal smoking accessories. Authorities confiscated 230 tobacco pipes, 415 cans of shisha molasses, 165 cans of tobacco, 105 tobacco pipe buts, tobacco rolling paper and tobacco pipe cleaners.

The campaign is part of the municipality’s efforts to enforce health standards and to protect the community from health hazards. Abu Dhabi also wants to raise awareness amongst members of the public aboutthe adverse effects and negative impact of smoking.
