Dubai residents in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and Jumeirah Islands (JI) have complained about a foul smell coming from a broken sewage pipe, as developers argue over whose responsibility it is, Gulf News reported.

“I hope authorities do their bit to resolve the matter as soon as possible. I was planning to have a party in the garden but that is not possible while the stink remains,” one resident was quoted as saying.

Another highlighted the potential health risks to the broken sewage pipes: “To be constantly exposed to such sewage waste can be hazardous to health. Hope that authorities look into this matter at the earliest and fix the pipe.”

A spokesperson from the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), the authority for the JLT area, told Gulf News: “There has been a rupture in a wastewater line which is part of Nakheel’s infrastructure passing through a corner of JLT. We are assisting Nakheel whilst this pipeline is being repaired and are in continuous communication with the Environmental Department of Dubai Municipality for all necessary steps relating to health and safety questions as well as measures taken to contain the odour.”

However, a Nakheel spokesperson told Gulf News the issue was matter for DMCC.

Around 50,000 reportedly work in JLT’s 61 towers, while JI comprises around 700 villas.
