UAE’s Public Prosecution for Cybercrimes (PPC) has detained a man over his use of social media sites to publish false information and rumours.

News agency WAM reported that the PCC ordered the detention of Ahmed Mansour Al Shehhi, pending further investigation over the use of social media sites to publish false information and rumours, as well as promoting sectarian and hate-incited agenda.

The national news agency said the PPC ordered the arrest of Al Shehhi on Sunday, based on documented information that he uses the social media sites to publish false and misleading information that harm national unity and social harmony and damage the country’s reputation.

The PCC said the Attorney General is investigating the matter.
