The most popular streaming day in the UAE this year was the second day of Eid Al Adha, according to a YouGov survey by streaming service Netflix.

The survey also revealed that the most binge-watched show by families was Stranger Things. It was followed by drama series 13 Reasons Why, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Star Trek Discovery, Chef’s Table, Fuller House, Gilmore Girls, Anne with an E, The Worst Witch and Trollhunters respectively.

Interestingly, the survey revealed a third of parents in the UAE have sneaked in episodes of their favourite shows while hiding from their children in the bathroom.

Furthermore, the shows that subscribers watched ahead of their significant others include Narcos, 13 Reasons Why, Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Ozark, Marvel’s Iron Fist, Marvel’s The Defenders, Mindhunter, Black Mirror and Sense 8.

The shows that were watched for over two hours per day included The Mist, Greenleaf, American Vandal, Atypical, 3%, 13 Reasons Why, Marvel’s Iron Fist, Anne with an E, Ingobernable and Travelers.

Strangely, there was one particular Netflix member in the UAE who watched documentary film Hoop Dreams 195 times this year.

Moreover, the data revealed shows such as Narcos, Stranger Things, The Crown and Orange is the New Black were the most loved shows of the years, while 13 Reasons Why generated more social media chatter than any other show on Netflix this year.

The survey also revealed viewers in the MENA region secretly downloaded episodes in the office and university classrooms, with binge watching rates falling during the exam period.

Netflix has over 109 million members in over 190 countries, where members can watch shows anytime and anytime, with nearly no internet connection. In 2017, its members around the world watched over 140 million hours of content per day; a little over one billion hours per week.

In October, Netflix announced that it is working on its first-ever Arabic Netflix Original with Lebanese comedian Adel Karam. It is set to air in 2018.
