Iran accused of ‘photoshopping’ missile image

Newspapers suggest Iran military doctored a missile test photograph to show extra rocket.

The extent of Iran’s recent missile tests may have been overblown. An image, published across the world on Wednesday, showing four missiles blasting into a clear blue sky, appears to have been doctored.

One of the missiles is indistinguishable from another in the image, and has an identical smoke trail to a third. This suggests that a fourth missile has been created from two of the others in the picture.

American newspapers noticed the coincidence and made further enquiries about the source of the photograph.

It was traced back to Sepah News, the media arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, which distributed it via newswire AFP. AFP has withdrawn the picture from distribution, although it did not categorically confirm that it had been doctored.

It remains unclear whether the picture is a visual coincidence, or whether the Iranian military has mastered photoshop.
