Aldar’s Yas Mall to open during Abu Dhabi F1 2014

Developer says construction of 2.5m sq ft shopping centre is complete, handover of units to retailers has begun

Aldar Properties announced on Sunday that Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi’s first super-regional mall located on Yas Island, will open to coincide with the final race of the 2014 Formula One World Championship.

The developer said in a statement that the construction of the 2.5 million sq ft mall is now complete and the handover of units to tenants for fit-out has begun.

With the completion of Yas Mall, Aldar said it will become the largest owner and manager of retail space in Abu Dhabi.

Over 80 percent of Yas Mall space is committed to major international retail groups including Al Shaya, Majid Al Futtaim, Landmark, Dubai Holding, Azadea, Paris Group, Royal Sporting House, Al Futtaim, Retail Arabia and Fucom, the statement said.

Yas Mall will open with more than 300 stores, growing to over 400 stores and outlets including F&B brands, a 20 screen cinema operated by VOX Cinemas, the largest hypermarket in Abu Dhabi which will be operated by Geant and a family entertainment zone.

Aldar’s deputy CEO, Mohammed Al Mubarak, said: “Yas Mall will help draw people to Abu Dhabi with its incredible range of attractions. It will be a significant addition to the wider Yas Island offer and a major contributor to the economy, both directly and indirectly. The mall will be a major part of our corporate strategy to strengthen recurring revenues, bringing stability and consistency to underlying earnings.”

Yas Island includes seven hotels, as well as a range of attractions comprising Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Marina, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Water World, Yas Links Golf Course; and Yas Retail Park.
