Abu Dhabi-based Al Ahli Holding Group said on Wednesday it has inked deals with the world’s five biggest gym equipment manufacturers as it embarks on a massive expansion across the Middle East.
CEO Mohammed Khammas said agreements had been signed with Life Fitness, Matrix, Star Trac, Precor and Cybex to supply equipment to the Gold’s Gyms being set up in the region.
Gold’s Gym was founded in 1965 as a weightlifting shop in Venice, California and quickly became popular with celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tiger Woods, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Hilary Swank, Keanu Reeves and Jessica Alba.
The agreements makes Al Ahli the largest single buyer of the fitness equipment brands in the world, the company said in a statement.
An initial 26 gyms are to be built in the UAE, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain with the first three set to open in the next few months.
Al Ahli last year signed a franchise deal to expand the Gold’s Gym footprint which will eventually see up to 62 gyms in key areas spanning from South Africa to Morocco and from Cyprus to Jordan.
The initial schedule is to develop within the UAE, with a heavy emphasis on the capital Abu Dhabi, then to proceed onto other emirates, the company said.
Khammas added: “Our strive in providing excellence in the fitness space is driven by complete satisfaction and results for our clients.
“We allow our client base to continuously rate the products of the big five manufacturers and they decide the ranking and the direction of our purchases.”
Khammas said that Al Ahli’s fitness expansion plans will also include Latin America.
