Abu Dhabi is set to retain its prestigious position as the final race in the Formula 1 calendar in 2019, according to a draft released by the FIA.

The 2019 Formula 1 season is set to finish at the Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island on December 1 while Bahrain is also included as the second race of the season on March 31.

There have reportedly been only three later finishes to a season since the Formula 1 World Championship began in 1950 – 1959, 1962 and 1963.

According to the draft calendar, the record-equalling 21-race calendar has the same order as 2018, with the first race in Australia on March 17.

The calendar will be submitted for approval during the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting on October 12.

Eleven of the 21 races are in Europe, five in Asia, four in the Americas and one in Australia.
