Acer has announced a new series of Nettop PCs that will offer graphics performance comparable to full sized desktops thanks to Nvidia’s Ion GPU.

The Revo series is the first product announced that uses the Ion MC79 graphics chip, which is based on the GeForce 9400M that powers the Apple Air and the Macbook. The Ion GPU gives the Revo full 1080p HD video playback and will enable it to handle graphics intensive processes like games, high definition video and running Windows Vista Home Premium.

Gianpiero Morbello, corporate vice president of marketing for Acer said: “The AspireRevo is small and quiet enough to go anywhere, yet big enough to handle all the needs of your digital lifestyle. It’s perfectly suited for the living room, because Nvidia Ion provides a brilliant graphics experience with digital photos, watching video, and playing family-friendly games.”

The Revo is powered by an Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor, with up to 4GB Ram, a 250GB HDD plus HDMI port, a memory card reader, and six USB ports. While details have not been released yet, the Revo is expected to sell for well under $500.

Dan Vivoli, senior vice president of marketing at Nvidia commented: “The Acer AspireRevo with our new Nvidia Ion GPU is so small and powerful it’s unbelievable. Watch Blu-ray movies1 and HD movie trailers, or clean up jerky, dim cell phone videos for internet streaming. This is the perfect PC for today’s consumers.”
