Dubai World Central unveils new Aviation District

Dubai World Central (DWC) has unveiled details of its upcoming Aviation District located next to Al Maktoum International Airport.

The 6.7 square kilometre development has been designed to facilitate the growth and expansion of the region’s aviation sector and will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, an education cluster, and world-class aviation expertise.

“Dubai World Central is the only development based on the concept of the airport city in the Middle East. It has opened up infinite possibilities for the global aviation industry seeking to do business in the MENA region,” said Rashed Bu Qara’a, chief operating officer at Dubai Aviation City Corporation.

“The DWC Aviation District’s integration of aviation business elements has attracted the attention of major industry players. Our participation at MRO Middle East 2014 gave us a perfect platform to promote the district as a gateway for global MRO companies to strengthen their presence in the region,” he added.

DWC announced that its Aviation District will aim at accommodating all aviation-related operations, manufacturing and associated industries, Fixed Base Operators (FBOs), maintenance, repair and operations (MROs), aviation support services, design and consultancy, products and parts, light manufacturing units, and high technology industries.

Beyond its aviation focus, the district will also offer well-defined zones for sectors such as hospitality, education, research and development (R&D), and mixed-used development.

DWC, a strategic government initiative, is a 140 sq km purpose-built aerotropolis with the Al Maktoum International Airport as its core. It has been designed as a self sustaining economic zone to support a multitude of activities including logistics, aviation, commercial, exhibition, humanitarian, residential and leisure related business.
