Indian carrier IndiGo has launched new daily flights between Mumbai and Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), as the northern UAE emirate emerges as a global tourism hub.
RAK, which is known for its nature and adventure-focused features, has become the Indian airline’s 100th destination overall, and 11th in the Middle East.
“This new route, warmly welcomed by our customers and authorities, further enhances connectivity in the region as envisioned in IndiGo’s strategy,” its chief executive officer Pieter Elbers said in a statement.
The emirate is a critical player in the UAE’s efforts to boost its tourism industry.
The new route between Mumbai and RAK comes amid an “increased passenger flow from the Indian subcontinent,” Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, chairman of the RAK International Airport said.
“The driving force behind Ras Al Khaimah’s economy lies in its thriving tourism and industrial sector and IndiGo’s approach is well aligned to our passenger needs,” he added.
A two-way trip would cost around $290.
