Scottish bands Texas and Simple Minds coming to Dubai

Scottish bands Texas and Simple Minds are coming to Dubai this year and will play at a popular venue with expats

Texas and Simple Minds are to play The Irish Village in Dubai.

The two bands will be making their way to the venue – which has hosted stars such as Bob Geldof and The Wailers this year – in November.

Texas’ lead singer Sharleen Spiteri will be in the UAE with band memebers Ally McErlaine, Johnny McElhone, Eddie Campbell, Tony McGovern, Michael Bannister and Ross McFarlane.

The band has been going since 1986 and are perhaps best known for their tracks ‘I Don’t Want A Lover’, ‘Say What You Want’, ‘Black Eyed Boy’ and ‘Summer Sun’.

Their 2015 album titled ‘Texas 25’ will also be touring Europe before and after they hit the UAE.

It’s not the first time Texas have visited the country, they played the same venue last January.

Meanwhile fellow Scots Simple Minds are also doing European gigs in the lead-up to the Irish Village show.

The 80s band are expected to belt our hits including ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ when Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill, Mel Gaynor, Andy Gillespie and Ged Grimes play in the Emirate.

Exciting news of these two groups’ arrival comes as the Irish Village prepares for HopFest this week.

Taking place over three days – August 27-29 – the gathering will see fans slurping away anytime between 12pm to 12am in Garhoud.

Providing musical entertainment will be The Maplejacks plus Carmen and the Black T’s & DJ Marky Mark, regulars at Dubai bash.

The Celtic institution will be showcasing hops from many locations across the world so enthusiasts can get their fill on just what excites their tastebuds.

The Irish Village has another fun event coming up in the near future as Midge Ure will also be gracing the popular location soon.

The singer – who has Grammy, Ivor Novello and BASCAP awards to his name – will be cropping up in the city to play a show at the Irish Village on September 24.
