Dubai-based classified website Dubizzle has begun charging a fee for motor adverts.
The National reports that Dubizzle changed its terms on December 3 last, and is now charging users AED199 to place an advert to sell a vehicle on its website.
“This change is part of our efforts to maintain and grow the UAE’s biggest open marketplace in the Middle East,” Osman Bhurgri, Dubizzle product marketing manager of motors told The National.
“Our goal is to have every car listed on Dubizzle sold as soon as possible, with as little hassle as possible.”
He revealed that vehicles advertised on Dubizzle sell, on average, within two weeks.
While the number of adverts for vehicles has dropped slightly since the new charge was introduced, Bhurgri said the number of people visiting the site has remained strong. He explained that the charge was necessary to invest further in developing the website.
Dubizzle has also introduced a monthly package of AED650 for five car listings, which Bhurgri said is aimed at car dealers.
