Apple has announced its latest flagship smartphones, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, boasting larger displays, enhanced camera capabilities, and improved performance.

The new models, set to hit the market on September 20, feature a durable titanium design and are powered by the A18 Pro chip.

Apple iPhone 16: Everything you need to know

The iPhone 16 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max sports a 6.9-inch screen – the largest ever on an iPhone, the company revealed in a statement.

Both models incorporate Super Retina XDR displays with Always-On and ProMotion technologies, surrounded by what Apple claims are the thinnest borders of any Apple product to date.

“Powered by the faster, more efficient A18 Pro chip and built for Apple Intelligence, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are the most advanced iPhone models we’ve ever made,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“Customers who are looking for the best possible iPhone will be able to take advantage of this huge step forward, with larger displays and a more advanced camera system that is perfect for filming their next masterpiece in 4K120 in Dolby Vision and easily capturing memories using Camera Control — all while enjoying extraordinary battery life,” he added.

Apple introduces ‘Camera Control’ for iPhone 16 Pro for enhanced photography experience

One of the standout features is the new Camera Control, which offers users a quick way to access the camera system and adjust settings.

This hardware-software integration includes a tactile switch, force sensor, and capacitive sensor, allowing for various interactions and controls.

The camera system itself has seen significant upgrades. Both models now feature a 48MP Fusion camera with a faster quad-pixel sensor, enabling 4K video recording at 120 fps in Dolby Vision.

Apple states this is the highest resolution and frame-rate combination ever available on an iPhone. The devices also include a new 48MP Ultra Wide camera and a 5x Telephoto camera on both Pro models.

Audio capabilities have been enhanced with four new studio-quality microphones, allowing for more true-to-life sound recording.

The new Audio Mix feature, powered by machine learning, enables users to adjust sound after capture, focusing on specific elements like voices or environmental noises.

Apple unveils A18 Pro Chip, powering latest iPhone Pro models

The A18 Pro chip, built with second-generation 3-nanometer technology, powers these new features.

Apple claims it delivers “unprecedented efficiency” and supports advanced gaming capabilities, including hardware-accelerated ray tracing that is up to twice as fast as the previous generation.

In terms of safety and communication, the new iPhones offer expanded satellite connectivity for messaging when outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.

A new feature called Emergency SOS Live Video will allow users to share live video feeds with emergency dispatchers during an emergency call.

The devices are designed with environmental considerations in mind, featuring more than 25 percent recycled content overall. This includes 100 percent recycled aluminium in the internal structural frame and 80 percent or more recycled steel across multiple components.

Apple iPhone 16 prices revealed

Pricing for the iPhone 16 Pro starts at AED4,299, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max begins at AED5,099.

Both models will be available in four finishes: black titanium, natural titanium, white titanium, and desert titanium, with storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB.

Pre-orders for the new iPhones will begin on September 13, with availability starting from September 20 in over 58 countries and regions.

iOS 18, the operating system powering these new devices, will be available as a free software update on September 16.

Apple is also introducing a range of accessories for the new iPhones, including cases and a new MagSafe Charger that enables faster wireless charging up to 25W.
