Saudi World Cup fans optimistic about Morocco victory

World Cup fans in Saudi Arabia are optimistic about Morocco defeating France to advance to the finals against Argentina, to be played on December 18.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulazaiz Al Saud personally congratulated King Mohamed VI of Morocco over a phone call following the historical win that the Moroccan World Cup team achieved against Portugal, advancing them to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Morocco has shocked the world with a stunning performance which has led them to be the first African-Arab side that has reached the last four of the FIFA World Cup, their victory so far has sparked joy across the Arab World.

This has been a historic sports event for the Arab world. With Qatar hosting, Saudi Arabia defeating Lionel Messi’s Argentina and Morocco’s heroics it has seen celebration, unity, delight and passionate support.

To reach this stage Morocco has had to take on teams including Croatia, Belgium, Canada, Spain and Portugal.

They are set to play against defending champions France in the semi-final match at the Al-Bayt Stadium on December 14.

The team has received immense support, encouragement and cheer from individuals, personalities, delegates and royals.

The winning team this year will walk away with a staggering $42 million, according to reports.

According to statista.com, the prize money for the World Cup back in 1982 was $2.2 million and rose significantly with the last one being $38 million pre-pandemic at 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where current semi-final contenders, France, took home the victory.

Earlier this month, Arabian Business reported the Qatar World Cup has turned out to be the most expensive FIFA World Cup, with the average match ticket costing £286 ($347), higher by 39 percent from the 2018 event in Russia, the latest study revealed.

The first World Cup event in the Middle East and the Arab world also turned out to be most expensive in other costs such as for stay, travel and food.

The cost for the final match tickets in Qatar – priced at around £684 ($830) – is a whopping 59 percent higher compared to the last World Cup, the study by Keller Sports, a Munich-based leading sports supplier, found.

France VS Morocco at the Al Bayt Stadium; kick-off at 7PM.

The winner of each game will then play in the final on Sunday, December 18 at the Lusail Stadium; kick-off at 3PM.
