Saudi Arabia’s NEOM has launched a new food company focused on sustainable and innovative food solutions.

The new company, ‘Topian’, aims to transform global food systems through five pillars: climate-proof agriculture, regenerative aquaculture, novel foods, personalised nutrition and sustainable food supply chains. It also seeks to address issues like climate change, population growth and resource depletion.

Topian was established with support from the kingdom’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture. It aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 goals of ensuring food security and achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.

The company will foster collaboration between scientists, industry and innovators. Its ‘Future to Table’ concept will introduce initiatives to revolutionise today’s food systems.

Topian’s Role in Reshaping the Global Food System

NEOM CEO Nadhmi Al-Nasr said Topian will be a “key driver” shaping the future of sustainable food.

“NEOM is an accelerator of human progress and Topian reflects our dedication to creating a positive, long-lasting transformation to lives in Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world. Topian’s innovative approach will be a key driver in shaping the future landscape of a sustainable and secure food industry,” he said.

“We look forward to working closely with investors, partners, and food industry experts in turning ambitious ideas into reality, supporting economic diversification in the Kingdom and aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.”

Topian CEO Dr. Juan Carlos Motamayor said the company is committed to promoting sustainability, food security and the Kingdom’s self-sufficiency.

“Topian is leading the food-security conversation to create a resilient food supply in line with the Saudi Green Initiative and the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals. We are not only committing to shaping a transformative global food system, but also to setting a global benchmark by pioneering new technologies and innovative solutions to overcome food-related challenges and create a more secure, sustainable, and prosperous future for all,” said Motamayor.

The new food company has formed partnerships with several organisations to reshape the future of food, some of which include universities like King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and Tabuk University as well as companies including Tabuk Fish Company, BlueNalu, Van der Hoeven Horticultural Projects, and Cargill.
