Poland on Thursday opened a representative office in Abu Dhabi to further boost trade and investment ties with the UAE.

The move comes amidst a steady rise in bilateral trade in recent years.

The UAE-Poland trade registered a 22 percent year-on-year jump in non-oil trade in the first half of 2022 to AED3 billion.

The bilateral non-oil trade in 2021 was to the tune of AED5.3 billion last year, up by 12 percent from the previous year.

The opening of the representative office took place on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi – Poland Business Forum held in the UAE capital on Thursday.

The forum, organised by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) in collaboration with the Polish embassy in the UAE, discussed prospects of accelerating investment and trade cooperation between the two countries in areas of energy, industry, advanced technology and food security.

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, said the UAE is currently one of Poland’s largest trade partners in the region.

“In recent years, the UAE has also become Poland’s key partner in the Arab world in terms of political dialogue and economic cooperation, with more than 20 agreements signed between the two countries in various fields,” Al Zeyoudi said.

He said the UAE’s total direct investment into Poland amounted to about $208 million spread across sectors.

Polish FDI into the UAE currently totals $94 million, mainly in sectors such as real estate, technology, science, modern technologies and retail.

Rashed Abdulkarim Al Blooshi, Undersecretary of ADDED, said that the inauguration of the Polish representative Office in Abu Dhabi was a key milestone in the bilateral relationship.

“It will pave the way for more fruitful collaboration between the two countries,” he said.
