UAE announces grace period for residency violators

The UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has declared a two-month grace period for residents who have violated the country’s residency system.

The amnesty will begin on September 1, 2024, allowing individuals in breach of residency laws to either regularise their status or depart the country without facing fines.

This initiative aims to offer violators a chance to rectify their situation in accordance with UAE law. The ICP states that this move reflects the nation’s principles of compassion and tolerance.

How to apply for fine exemptions for UAE residency

Applicants must submit a dedicated service request, by visiting the nearest Customer Happiness Centre (Amer), obtain a queue ticket, submit their application with required documents to a customer service employee, and pay any applicable fees.

This service is available at the General Administration – Al Aweer Centre from Monday to Thursday, 7.30 AM to 7 PM, and Friday 7.30 AM to 12 noon and 2.30 PM to 7 PM.
