UAE and Saudi Arabia non-oil trade has totalled $266bn in past 10 years

UAE-Saudi non-oil trade leaps 9% to $37bn

Non-oil trade between the UAE and Saudi Arabia reached $37bn (AED136.09bn) in 2022, according to data from the Federal Centre for Competitiveness and Statistics.

The preliminary findings represent a growth rate of 9% compared to AED124.6bn ($34bn) at the end of 2021.

Over the period of 2013-2022, non-oil trade between the two countries increased by 70%, with the total non-oil trade over the past ten years amounting to AED975.5bn ($266bn).

The volume of non-oil trade surpassed AED100bn, with AED107.4bn in 2018, approximately AED113 bn in 2019, and about AED104bn in 2020.

In 2022, non-oil trade between the UAE and Saudi Arabia consisted of AED34bn worth of imports from Saudi Arabia to the UAE, while non-oil exports from the UAE to Saudi Arabia amounted to AED35.6bn, and re-exports totalled AED66.4bn.

  • Ethylene polymers valued at AED3.6bn
  • Raw gold valued at AED1.7bn
  • Insulated wires and cables for electricity valued at AED1.1bn
  • Laundry products valued at AED811m

Top five commodities imported from the UAE to Saudi Arabia in 2022

  • Raw gold valued at AED8.7bn
  • Ornaments and jewellery valued at AED2.5bn
  • Copper wires valued at AED2.4bn
  • Flat products of iron or steel valued at AED891m
  • Mineral oils valued at AED829m

Communication devices and equipment ranked first on the list of top five commodities re-exported from the United Arab Emirates to Saudi Arabia in 2022, valued at AED9.1bn, followed by data processing machines worth AED6.6bn, parts and accessories for vehicles worth AED2.2bn, woven clothing worth AED2.3bn, and jewellery worth AED1.9bn.
