One of the region’s leading logistics providers is doubling down on innovation and sustainability to ensure the GCC meets its ambitions of becoming the epicentre of global trade.
Matthew Kearns from Qatar-based Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC) believes the adoption of green initiatives, environmentally friendly practices, and cutting-edge technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) are all vital in ensuring the Middle East retains its competitive edge.
The Acting Group CEO said technological innovation and sustainability were the foundational pillars of GWC’s plans to turbocharge its regional expansion over the coming 12 months.
Mr Kearns said: “If the Middle East wants to remain at the forefront of international logistics, the sector must continue embracing technological advancements, sustainability initiatives, and partnerships that enhance supply chain resilience.
“By leveraging AI, AR, robotics, automation and green logistics solutions, we can improve efficiency while contributing to a more sustainable future. Regional collaboration will be key to unlocking new opportunities and maintaining our global advantage.”

With a presence in 20 key locations and a workforce of over 4,000, GWC reported record annual gross revenues of QAR 1.582 billion in 2024. Under new leadership, the company is set to scale up operations in 2025, capitalising on its diverse service portfolio – including contract logistics, freight forwarding, transportation, records management, and supply chain consulting.
“The GCC’s logistics industry is evolving at an incredible pace, fuelled by major infrastructure projects, digital innovation, and a strong push for sustainability,” Mr Kearns added.
“By 2030, it’s expected to surpass $100 billion, opening exciting opportunities for companies like GWC to expand, innovate, and shape the future of the sector.”
By strengthening strategic partnerships and refining its offerings, the company aims to expand its market influence while driving operational excellence. It strengthened its foothold in Saudi Arabia last year, partnering with GFH Financial Group to develop 200,000 square meters of Grade ‘A’ logistics infrastructure, while subsidiary GWC Energy Services is supporting clients across the GCC in multiple strategic locations.
GWC is also expanding its operations in Oman through its subsidiary FLAG Logistics, adding to its other existing operations in Bahrain, the UAE and Qatar, where Al Wukair Logistics Park is leading the way in light industry infrastructure and establishing itself as a hub for Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs). Through facilities like BuSulba and Al Wukair, GWC is enabling e-commerce logistics across the GCC and focusing its efforts on its growing e-commerce offering with a number of exciting new deals in the pipeline.
Sustainability is central to GWC’s long-term strategy. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact, the company has set ambitious environmental targets, including a 3 per cent reduction in Scope 1 emissions, which come directly from owned or controlled sources, and a 6 per cent reduction in Scope 2 emissions, which result from purchased energy.

These goals are supported by energy efficiency programs, waste reduction strategies, and investments in renewable energy, including solar power. Key initiatives include energy and water conservation, paperless processes, vehicle route optimisation, recycling efforts, and sustainable resource management, with the company looking to make major announcements linked to its clean energy practices during 2025.
GWC, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, is also integrating advanced technology into its operations. AI-driven analytics, AR solutions, and blockchain-enabled supply chain management are enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving service quality.
Mr Kearns said that GWC is committed to driving growth in the GCC logistics sector and that strengthening public-private sector collaboration was crucial role in the industry’s regional expansion.
With a clear vision for innovation and sustainability, GWC is set to play a pivotal role in ensuring the GCC remains a leading global trade hub for years to come.
