Review: Armani Spa

Not a normal spa, it’s an Armani experience: understated class and easy-going luxury

Those who are not familiar with Giorgio Armani and his design philosophy will not understand the Armani Spa. They might think it’s empty, gloomy, and mediocre. It’s minimal, dark, and sleek – from the all-black showers down to the understated massage treatments. But located in the Armani Hotel in Burj Khalifa, it’s everything we expected from the fashion genius.

When we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff who sat us down for the usual medical form and then asked us one simple question, “deep-tissue or relaxing massage?” No sugar-coated reflexology terms that nobody understands, no complications.

We opted for the relaxing option, which followed the spa’s theme of simplicity. Though there was nothing highly distinctive about the treatment, it was hands-down the best we’ve had in a long time. It was a real massage, not just a process of someone splashing oil on our back. Our therapist was clearly highly trained because she applied the right amount of pressure to give us a therapeutic mix of pain and pleasure. When she was done, we felt both relaxed and lively.

Design-wise, although the spa’s interiors are black and white, it feels cosy in its own modern way. Its staff is also genuinely friendly and helpful, which made us feel at ease.

Our verdict for the Armani Spa is that it should be tried by everyone at least once in a lifetime. But keep an open mind when you visit. It’s not a normal spa, it’s an Armani experience: understated class and easy-going luxury.
