Gaming peripheral unveiled that literally ‘shoots’ the player in the chest when hit
TN Games has unveiled a gaming peripheral in the form of the ‘3rd Space vest’, a video game-connected military-style jacket that literally ‘shoots’ the player in the chest when hit.
Priced at $169 and available from www.tngames.com , this painful piece of apparel is aimed squarely at use with first-person shooter (FPS) titles for the PC platform, such as Quake and Crysis, and is being promoted with the tagline, ‘Get pounded on your own terms’.
The 3rd Space Vest gives the player the feel of impact, where it happens in the game. So for example, the player’s character being shot in the belly will lead to a slam in the abdomen for the player themselves, provided by the components within the vest.
For this product to work with games, titles must of course support 3rd Space functionality. At present just two titles - 3rd Space Incursion and the 3rd Space version of Call of Duty 2 - have been developed with the vest in mind.
However a downloadable software driver for the vest is also available through the firm’s website, which applies vest functionality to the following releases:
Unreal Tournament 3 (U.S. Retail Version Version 1.1), Crysis (U.S. Retail Version 188.8.131.5267), Crysis (U.S. Retail Version 184.108.40.20679), Clive Barker's Jericho (U.S. Version 1.0), Halflife 2 - Episode 1 (U.S. Steam Version), Halflife 2 - Episode 2 (U.S. Steam Version), Medal Of Honor Airborne (U.S. Retail Version), F.E.A.R (U.S. Retail Version 1.0), Enemy Territory Quake Wars (U.S. Retail Version), Quake 4 (U.S. Retail Version 1.4.2), Doom 3 (U.S. Retail Version 1.3.1).
Last but not least, game ‘mods’ - separate pieces of software that run on a PC to add 3rd Space effects to a particular game – are also already available for Quake 4 (version 1.4.2) and Doom 3 (version 1.3.1), again through TN’s website. For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
