Record concrete pour takes place on Al Durrah

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Saturday, 07 April 2007
Over two days, nearly 10,500m3 of concrete was poured into the foundation raft of the project. Ready Mix Beton is supplying Dubai Contracting Company.

Dubai Contracting Company (DCC) and Ready Mix Beton (RMB) have set a new construction record. The concrete foundation raft for their new project - Al Durrah Tower in the World Trade Centre area of Dubai - has superseded the previous record also held by RMB in the UAE for a continuously poured concrete raft.

Close to 10,500m3 of concrete was poured between March 22-23.

"Pouring this volume of special self-compacting concrete needs a high-efficiency, precision-based operation as well as excellent coordination ... between RMB and DCC," said an RMB representative.

The Emirates' largest concrete raft will support Al Durrah Tower, a 50-storey residential building comprising 474 apartments, a spa, swimming pool and squash courts. Atkins is the consultant on the project, which is due to be completed in November 2008.

Dubai Contracting Company was established in 1961; Ready Mixed Beton was founded in 1975 and deals in the production and supply of ready-mix concrete.
