Aramex invests Dhs20M in expansion

Money will be spent on expansion of capacity at its Jebel Ali logistics centre.

Aramex International Limited (AIL) plans to invest more than Dhs20 million in the development and expansion of its Jebel Ali logistics centre. The first phase of the expansion will see capacity increased to 50,000 square feet, growing to 83,000 in phase two.

The Jordan-based express courier firm has also upgraded, or is in the process of upgrading, centres in Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait and Bahrain. The Aramex centre at New York’s JFK airport area is also in line for a facelift.

“Aramex is expanding its logistics capacity and coverage in many markets. This is a reflection of the growth in the market and the dynamism of ARAMEX in taking timely moves to benefit from emerging trends,” says Iyad Kamal AIL’s vice president for logistics and ground operations.

“This new investment will give us a unique location to serve the accelerated growth of businesses in the Jebel Ali zone. This new Jebel Ali logistics centre is one among several state-of-the-art centres we are establishing around the region, including the GCC and Levant.”

Aramex already employs over 800 people in the UAE and expects the Jebel Ali expansion to add 100 jobs.
