Jebel Ali power and desalination project is retendered

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has reopened tender bidding for the Jebel Ali Power and Desalination Plant M.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has reopened tender bidding for the Jebel Ali Power and Desalination Plant M.

The original tender process for the plant did not receive the minimum number of bids required by law for the contract to be awarded. The revised closing date for tenders is 5 December.

The plant is to be constructed at the existing Jebel Ali power station complex adjacent to the Station L Phase II plant currently under construction. It will have an electrical capacity of 2,000MW and purify around 480 million litres of seawater daily.

The project scope of works is split into separate packages for the power and desalination plants. Firms are invited to tender for one or both packages.

DEWA has stated that it may invite successful tenderers to form a consortium under the leadership of the winning bidder of the power plant contract and award the project on a turnkey basis.

Commissioning of the plant is scheduled to take place in stages during 2009 and 2010.
