Andrew Tate planned to travel to Dubai before his appeal against legal charges in Romania was lost, his lawyer told the BBC.

The controversial social media personality was arrested last month in Romania on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group.

An official for Romania’s anti-organised crime agency said Andrew Tate had had lost an appeal against a third 30-day detention.

Tate must now stay in prison until at least March 29.

Before the announcement was made, Tate’s lawyer informed the BBC that the social media personality was planning a trip to Dubai.

Reports in Romania claimed Andrew Tate is an international flight risk, citing allegedly tapped phone conversations.

Tate’s lawyer, Eugen Vidineac said no illegal activity had been discussed on the phone while in custody and denied that Tate is a flight risk.

“There is no flight risk,” he said to BBC reporters. “It was a discussion between Andrew and his secretary, saying that – if he was freed by the judges under these conditions – he will go to Dubai [for medical examinations]”.

There has been no attempt to escape justice in Romania.

Tate and his brother Tristan have been under investigation since their arrest at the end of December.

As part of the investigation in January, Andrew Tate’s phones and laptops were seized and being searched as part of an ongoing investigation by Romanian authorities.

Tate has repeatedly claimed innocence since his arrest.
