The Dubai Government has announced an extension to work-from-home rules as it continues to recover from heavy rainfall in the UAE.

The instruction for public sector workers means entities will remain closed on Thursday, April 18 and Friday, April 19. It does not apply to workers required for on-site duties.

The private sector has been urged to offer flexible working patterns.

Remote working after Dubai rains

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has urged private sector companies to apply flexible work patterns in light of the weather fluctuations that the UAE has witnessed in the past two days.

An MOHRE statement said: “MoHRE reiterates the importance of taking precautions in outdoor work environments where it is difficult to suspend operations, urging employers to ensure workers’ health and safety during their commute to and from these sites and that occupational health and safety requirements are met.”

Clarifying work from home for the public sector, a message on social media said: “Government has extended remote working for employees of all its entities through Thursday and Friday, 18 and 19 April 2024.

“The move facilitates the ongoing work of teams across the emirate. The decision applies to all government employees, except for roles that require on-site presence at the workplace”.

Earlier in the day, education authorities in the city said that schools, nurseries and universities would switch to remote-learning lessons and activities until the weekend.
