Dubai Police receives autism-friendly certification

Dubai Police has officially received its Autism-Friendly Certificate from the Dubai Autism Centre, the authority said in a statement.

The certificate acknowledges that the Force has met the required criteria in personnel, facilities and services to create a safe and friendly environment for individuals with autism.

Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, confirmed that receiving this recognition is due to the Force’s dedication in ensuring an inclusive setting for people of determination.

He said that this commitment aligns with objectives for sustainable development, the national policy empowering those with determination, Dubai’s strategy of “My Community – A City for Everyone” and Dubai Police’s own strategy to enhance quality of life for this segment of society.

“This commitment aims to achieve pioneering leadership and comprehensive integration for individuals with determination, aligning with the remarkable advancements witnessed throughout the country in various sectors. Moreover, it reinforces Dubai Police’s dedication to being a friendly and supportive entity for individuals of determination as an integral part of its social responsibility,” Lt. Gen. Al Marri said.

Mohammed Al Emadi, Director-General of the Dubai Autism Centre, further thanked Dubai Police for their efforts in ensuring accessibility of services for individuals with autism at police stations. He acknowledged their dedication to meeting autistic people’s needs equally.

Al Barsha and Al Muraqqabat police stations were awarded based on evaluation of criteria for creating a safe environment for autistic individuals.

Al Emadi emphasised the Centre’s pursuit of creating an inclusive setting through global best practices and standards.

Major Abdullah Hamad Al Shamsi, Chairman of Dubai Police’s People of Determination Empowerment Council, stated that sensory rooms in stations demonstrate the Council’s dedication to building inclusive facilities as outlined in the Dubai Universal Design Code. Two such rooms have been established at the above stations.

The certificate presentation ceremony was attended by senior Dubai Police officials and Dubai Autism Centre representatives. Dubai Police aims to evaluate further needs and ensure equal access across sectors for individuals with autism.
