Dubai metro had “conflicting opinions,” but was a “bold decision”
Before beginning operations, Sheikh Mohammed also explained via Twitter that the Dubai Metro project experienced “conflicting opinions”.
However, he said that “a bold decision” was taken by going ahead with the project, delivering “what we promised.”
“In conclusion: In moments of difficult decisions, the worst option is not to make a decision, because in these moments the destiny of countries and societies is made,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
Safe and reliable mode of transport for passengers
Dubai Metro’s new milestone is a result of the emirate’s efforts to provide a safe and reliable mode of transport for all.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, also said that the milestone highlights Dubai’s ability to build a world-class transport network, due to the vision of Sheikh Mohammed, who aims to build a city that would serve as a model for future cities, according to a statement by the Dubai Media Office (DMO).
To do so, Dubai invested in several infrastructure projects featuring the highest international standards and operational efficiency to ensure the best provision of services, Sheikh Hamdan said, also lauding the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) for its efforts to implement quality projects that cater to the mobility needs of the community.
“The Dubai Metro has become the backbone of a transit system that connects various key districts in the emirate, ensuring a safe and smooth mobility for riders,” Sheikh Hamdan added.

He further explained: “The Dubai Metro is a vital project that serves the community and reflects Dubai’s keenness to provide effective, environmentally friendly and sustainable transport solutions. Dubai will continue to develop a highly efficient and reliable transport system to facilitate smooth and safe mobility and support the emirate’s overall development goals.”
In addition, the Dubai Metro played a key role, during the emirate’s successful hosting of Expo 2020 Dubai, as Route 2020, which spans 15km and connects seven stations, was opened to transport visitors to the site with ease.
Moreover, Dubai metro has contributed massively to Dubai’s economic growth through tourism, as well as a 12 percent appreciation in the value of real estate properties nearby the metro stations.
