UAE drug bust: Abu Dhabi police arrest man with 4.5 million Captagon pills

The Abu Dhabi Police have caught a suspect for attempting to smuggle 4.5 million Captagon pills into the UAE.

The suspect hid prescription-only pills in food containers, and planned to smuggle them to a neighbouring country.

The suspect was arrested following a security plan that involved tracking his movements, Abu Dhabi Police’s director of the Narcotics Directorate, Brigadier Tahir Al Dhaheri said.

Recently in February, the Dubai Police also caught and arrested 28 smugglers, and seized $9 million worth of narcotics.

The authority seized 111kg of drugs in a series of crime-fighting operations, and the drugs found during the raids include, crystal meth, heroin, hashish and Captogan.

Ras Al Khaimah Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department, in partnership with the Coast Guard Command of the emirate, also seized 103 kilograms of hashish on a fishing boat on the coast of Ras Al Khaimah, in January.

The UAE has always ensure the safety of citizens through several warnings over the growing danger of drug promotion through social media platforms in light of recent technological advancements.

Authorities have also urged the public to exercise caution when receiving messages from unknown sources and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

Individuals can report drug-related activity by calling the hotline numbers of the police forces in the respective seven emirates.
