Student enrolment at Dubai universities has risen by 11 percent in the past year, according to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

More than 48,000 people were enrolled in a Dubai university during the 2011-12 academic year, the KHDA 2012 Higher Education Landscape report, released on Wednesday, said.

The report says the increase was spread across Emirati and international students.

About 9,100 students graduated with either a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral qualification.

There was also an 8 percent increase in academic programs offered at the emirate’s 53 higher education institutions, particularly in the areas of business, media, law, humanities and natural and physical sciences.
