Oman LNG has signed an
agreement with the Environment Society of Oman to boost its environmental
conservation outreach programme in the Gulf state.
The state-backed firm said
it would provide OMR487,022 (US$1.1m) over a five-year period towards teaching
environmental management to Omani graduates, expanding its community outreach
programmes and other initiatives, the country’s state news agency said.
“This partnership will
accelerate the development of genuine and professional environmental capacity
in the Sultanate and significantly increase the contributions ESO will be
making to addressing wider environmental challenges in the Sultanate and
finding and implementing solutions that will protect and preserve the
environment for the future,” Dr Brian Buckley, CEO of Oman LNG said in a
statement.
Shared initiatives will
include shark monitoring along the Al Batinah coast, working with local Omani
Woman Associations and nation-wide anti-littering and recycling campaigns.
